the question is basically in the subject! i'm curious as to what you would enjoy doing if you had no worries about earning enough money to maintain a stable life.
my answer for a very long time was to just make indie games. i love indie game development but it's immensely time consuming, and i'm just not technically proficient enough in programming to make something 'on the side' without it taking me a long time... so i only ever release tiny games. if i could dedicate my all into working on a game that makes people feel as much as solodev (or very small) dev studio games like Stardew Valley, The Binding of Isaac, or Undertale, i would be immensely happy. i want to compose all the music for the game myself, too
now my answer is a bit different.. i wish i had the funds to run a press and label to make and release ephemera for myself and my friends. i want to make books and zines and tapes, distributing stories that deserve to be told all over. i think i'd have more fun with this day-to-day and could embed more activations (like hosting workshops and gatherings; i'd love to participate in artist fairs) on the regular—and it would only nourish what i already do in my own time. (i'd also be able to release games through this too,i think!)
what about you?

i talked about this on twitter before but i'd probably just want to work as a cashier/staff at a small store or restaurant. i feel like a very simple person and i'd prefer to just have my hobbies (like art) be hobbies instead of a career.
right now i am dreaming of opening a small birding-themed inn/bed & breakfast (think like, 2-4 rooms good for 2-4 people) high up in the mountains (probably along marilaque highway) named bird & breakfast. non-birders welcome, obviously

i would spend my life building a computer that people could understand. there are so many cool things that computers can do (anything) that nobody knows so i want to make a system that helps people understand and build things with computers with building blocks like systemd and chron jobs snd very simple things rather than doing everything in the browser in javascript. i think windows and macs have failed us because they try to hide parts of our computers from us but really there is so much beauty inside and everyone who makes a web app is remaking probably half of it. i want to make code easier to discover and share an
d borrow and use so that everyone can send and receive little cool bits and accumulate these libraries of cute functions made by their friends and can send them to each other and can make things without ever having to write code more than once ever again. i want computers to help people build software and for coding to be a conversation rather than a paper submission followed by compiler shouting match because life is so much more fun when everyone just sits down and talks to one another. technology is so good but we have failed it in so many small ways and i want to make it all right again.

honestly would love to work in a library or museum (natural history preferably) ! somewhere nice and quiet and monotonous. i love art and the idea of pursuing illustration etc. as a career has always excited me—but i think more than just worrying about money, i also worry immensely about my degree of skill and how qualified i am to be paid for creative work. it is a strange pressure to be 'worthy' or something or other... if that makes sense. it makes the act of just making things a little less fun and a little more something needing to be calculated. the hustle to improve can be very draining! right now i am dreaming of opening a small birding-themed inn/bed & breakfast (think like, 2-4 rooms good for 2-4 people) high up in the mountains (probably along marilaque highway) named bird & breakfast. non-birders welcome, obviously i remember us talking about this multiple times on our trips! this is also something i dream of. hoping for a nice hagimit tree in the back that doves can visit when it fruits, maybe a nice viewing deck that overlooks the forest. i always like to imagine the kind of people you can meet (esp. foreigners who travel specifically to go twitching) and what you can learn from them. being surrounded by nature and like-minded lovers of nature is the most exciting thing about it.

i think i’d do way more artsy stuff…i realized that i’m the type to want to output substantial projects, but this requires me to be a hermit (so that I can use all of my brain for it)…unfortunately being a creative hermit is expensive :,))) the artsy stuff I’d do: - make games (i dont know jack shit about this but seems like fun anyways) - NFTs? Lmao but seriously generative art is such a cool medium - ILLUSTRATE (( - idk just make art in general and submit it to exhibits and join fellowships and shit i’d also dance way more! maybe be a semi? professonial dancer / dance teacher…. also I think I’d just keep teaching in general, not just dance haha I can’t help but share knowledge

Honestly I would just want to travel and eat and listen to people's stories and write them down. Forever. Walk around - Nick Joaquin (my pseudonym is a reference to his) was famous for walking around Manila so much that he easily wore out his shoes. I want to sail out to sea with fishermen on a small bangka and eat kinilaw made from the fish they caught right then and there. I want to trek through mountains, marvel at golden rice fields and pristine white beaches. Drink juice straight from the coconut, untangle ornate pastillas wrappers, crackle lechon skin between my teeth. The Philippines is so underappreciated and people make it a hobby to hate being Filipino and I just want to counter all of that.
